Tinnitus

Tinnitus is the experience of hearing ringing in your head or ears. It can also be perceived as a buzzing, humming, or whistling sound. Some people even describe it as the sensation of a roaring ocean. It can be constant or intermittent and you may experience it in one ear or both.

Tinnitus & Hearing Loss

For the vast majority of people, tinnitus is a subjective sound which means that only the person who has it can hear it. It can be soft or loud. Tinnitus originates inside the head and the onset may be gradual or sudden.

Tinnitus is often related to hearing loss, although some medical conditions can also trigger tinnitus and sometimes there is no clear underlying cause.

We always ask about any experience of tinnitus at the first appointment. It is important to rule out any potential medical factors or refer you to other healthcare professionals as appropriate.

We can provide plenty of support for people with tinnitus, including counselling, hearing aids and other sound therapy options, and relaxation techniques.
